Early-ish Happy Thanksgiving, all you Americans on my flist. Got the youngest brother from college yesterday. Mom and I left at 3:20ish, got there at 8, and home at 12. Nine hour car ride for a journey that's supposed to take six...fuck yeah? o.O At least this wasn't as bad as the 8 hours we took one-way back in October, when we looped through Frederick and all the way down Virginia. That was ridiculous. But, the brother is home for now.

We played the Umbrella game all the way back, even in Sheetz where we stopped for coffee. It was probably one of the most frustrating three hour car-rides of my life, but all I could do was laugh when Stephen explained what the game was about. Am going to inflict it on the other brother and my cousins tomorrow :D

I also baked pies for the first time in my life today, with my grandmother. She had made the crust dough already (so does it count as making pies if I didn't do this step?) but I helped her roll the dough out and made the fillings (pumpkin and apple) and put them in the oven for her. I feel vaguely accomplished because my mom was very anti-Kristy-baking-anything-pie-related and incredibly cliche, because it was practically a Hallmark moment and the cynic in my soul rebels against those, hard. But it's my Grandmom and Pop-Pop, who are both getting frail - my grandmother's like a bird, all thin bones but none of the quick fluidity of movement - and I can feel my mom's family bracing themselves for the inevitable. So. Maybe more bittersweet than cliche.

I also have to bake cookies tomorrow, because what is Thanksgiving but an overabundance of food, so question - snicker doodle or chocolate chip or both?

Also, saw the trailers/mini-documentaries on Coraline. Looks like it's going to be amazing *_____* I can't wait!

Am reading 20th Century Boys. I have no idea what's going on and I can't put it down and I've never been so happy to be so lost. Seriously! It's so damn confusing, I'm not even entirely sure who's who anymore, but it's just so damn intriguing. At least two simultaneous story-lines plus the flash-backs, which function more as a third storyline than a real flashback sequence. It's crazy, I think I'm in love.

Also, Vinland Saga. If you have ever loved Vikings or Norse mythology or medieval history or warfare/warrior lifestyle, read this manga, for the love of all that is good. Will do a proper, spoiler-filled squee soon, but oh my god, realistic representation of Viking life, do so want!
